Gamers want to spend “cash” gifts on gaming anyway, but sometimes life gets the better of us, but that little extra push may be enough for your well intentioned gift to be used in the way you meant!
Receiving: Essen is over, so the convention season (new release) is over. Get what you want/ have been salivating over. Also note that its holiday season so everyone who can plans to have the MOST units in stores/available at this time of year, so take advantage. In the US the big box retailers (Target/Barnes & Noble/Books A Million) are all carrying more actual hobby games than ever, even more on their (gasp!) online portal, so you will have more opportunities to get the games you want. Conversely it’s a good time to get accessories you need as well: Rolling trays, bit bins, dice sets, supplements/expansions, etc. the BGG Store is a great place to find promos/exclusives for not a lot of money (when you are dealing in gift “i.e. extra” cash! So don’t forget to look there.
